The Recoleta Cemetery in Buenos Aires is recognized as one of the most beautiful cemeteries in the world. It is where most of Argentina’s who’s who are laid to rest, probably so they won’t have to travel far to attend those high society parties in the afterlife. The cemetery is situated in the high end district of Recoleta and is open to the public seven days a week. The mausoleums are arranged like city blocks designed in Art Deco, Art Nouveau, Baroque and Neo Gothic architectural styles and decorated with elaborate statues. This cemetery is one of the must see places when visiting Buenos Aires. Below are a few of the many photos I took during my tour of the place.

thanks for the reminder! I have to process my shots of this cemetery. You did a great job in there. I have shot in many, many cemeteries, but this is the only one that made me uneasy. I think it was the number of untended crypts and the open and broken coffins I saw. Bones. Clothes. It’s something you don’t see with underground burials which is what I was most familiar with. Still, it’s a grand and interesting place.

Good thing I didn’t see any of those during my visit…I’ll be having nightmares. The most creepy one I went to was Slide Cemetery in Alaska. I believe I have a post about it 2 years ago. Good luck with your photos.

Such a perfect clear blue sky day to visit a cemetery, I will say yes but I will definitely not stay after dark 😀

I enjoy photography about cemeteries! My first photog shoot was in a famous Savannah, Georgia cemetery, Colonial Park Cemetery.

Is that the one in the movie Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil? I heard the statue was transferred to a museum. Would love to again visit Savannah and take more photos. Thanks by the way for dropping by.

The statue was originally in Bonaventure Cemetery and belonged to a family. It had to be moved because of the book and movie.
