The Cypress Slough (pronounced “slew”) in Fort Myers, Florida is home to a diverse population of plants and animals. A portion of the 11-mile-long preserve has an elevated boardwalk allowing visitors a glimpse of nature’s beauty without stepping into the swampy terrain. When I passed through this section of the preserve, I noticed the trees were all bare like remnants to an apocalyptic tragedy. Apparently, there is more to Florida than just palm trees and sandy beaches.
